| What
is Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) on K20? |
Video
Conferencing is...
Video conferencing, in
its most basic form is the transmission of image and audio back
and forth between two or more locations over ISDN or Internet connections.
This is accomplished through the use of video conferencing equipment
which include cameras, microphones, speakers and sometimes a computer.
The three most popular types of video conferencing equipment in
Washington are manufactured by VTel,
Zydacron
and Polycom.
Video conferences occur in two
ways:
A Point
to Point
VC is a conference between two sites. One site dials another
site using their individual ISDN number at a prearranged time and
location. All
Point to Point conferences must be scheduled through the K20 Online
Resource Reservation System (KORRS). This is described in the Scheduling
section of this site.
A Multi-Point
VC is a video conference between three or more sites and
requires the use and scheduling of the Multipoint Conference Unit
(MCU) which manages all of the sites and allows up to 16 sites to
participate in one video confernence.
All
conferences must be scheduled through the K20
Online Resource Reservation System (KORRS).
This is described in the Scheduling
section of this site.
What
is K20?
The K20
Network provides a statewide
network for intranet, Internet and interactive video services to
all K-12 school districts. K20 operates and maintains the K20 network,
and provides support services for districts. The operational arm
of K20 is called "K20 Operations Cooperative" (KOCO).
KOCO helps resolve K20 network problems.
