Weyerhaeuser
Foundation grant for
Regional Science Education Project
The
Regional Science Education Project at ESD 105 was awarded a $25,000
grant from the Weyerhaeuser
Foundation in September 2006.These grant funds will
support the region in two ways. They will sponsor the new Assessment
Literacy Workshops that are offered for 4th and 5th
grade teachers who have been trained on the Land & Water unit
or the Motion & Design unit. The funds will also be used to
purchase needed kits to maintain optimum science implementation
in the region's kindergarten-6th grade classrooms.
Tom
Rossi,
a Weyerhaeuser zone manger, and Jeff Bickford, Weyerhaeuser Union
Gap plant site manager, presented the grant award check to Gary
Masten, Science Education Cooperative Board Chairman, on September
21, 2006. Weyerhaeuser appreciates the opportunity to be involved
in the community by ensuring that future community leaders will
be science literate.
The Regional
Science Education Project involves 22
public school districts and two private schools. The
participating schools share science kits that engage K-6 students
in hands-on activities that incorporate inquiry-based learning.
