Mathematics services at ESD 105 focus on strengthening the instructional core to ensure that all students are prepared for the technology-driven society of tomorrow. We help teachers build and expand their skills and develop new methods of instructing students, assessing student learning and using data to design and implement powerful learning programs.

ESD 105 believes that the most powerful professional development happens in the classroom, embedded in the work of the teacher. We promote the use of professional learning communities and have the skill and experience to facilitate these groups.

Our mathematics programs include:
Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) — DMI helps teachers think through the major ideas of K-7 math and examine how children learn them. Five modules focus on concepts on numbers and operations, geometry, and working with data.

First Steps in Mathematics — A research-based diagnostic tool combined with learning activities to further students' conceptual growth, First Steps gives teachers a framework to help identify individual student understandings and to hone skills in making accurate judgments and decisions about student learning.

Mathematics Coaching Cadre and Teacher Leadership Group – Math coaches and teacher leaders learn from each other and share experiences in this forum.

National Board Certified Teacher Secondary Mathematics Cohort — This one-year, cohort-based program is designed to help 6th-10th grade teachers understand and internalize standards for National Board Certification. The process includes support from a mathematics coach personalized to the needs of each participant's school/classroom.

Math Content Courses – This series of classes covers a variety of topics to help teachers deepen their mathematical content knowledge.

Transition Mathematics Project – TMP is a partnership between high schools and higher education to increase the number of high school students who are mathematically college ready when they enroll in a higher learning institution.

Migrant Education Math Curriculum Curriculum math specialists are available to assist educators on research-based math and learning stratgies based on state EALRs. Several mathematics workshops are available, including TItle I Planning and BEAM (Bridges to Excellence: Achievement in Mathematics).

Math Helping Corps The Math Helping Corps program is designed to assist schools by providing a mentor to work intensively with building staff with a focus on increasing student proficiency and excellence in math. Through expanding the knowledge of effective mathematics instructional strategies, the Math Helping Corps works with teachers, administrators and community to help students to not only become proficient in math, but also find mathematics exciting and enjoyable.

Mathematics Teacher Leadership Group — The professional learning community model is used to support a variety of levels of coaching and teacher leadership. The work focuses on accountable talk and incorporating robust mathematical discourse into classrooms.
