programs in reading and writing literacy at ESD 105 provide deep
foundational trainings in understanding how students learn to read,
write, and spell. We also assist teachers in applying assessment
data to design and implement strong learning curricula in their
classrooms.

LETRS
reading instruction modules
ESD
105 offers units throughout the year in LETRS – Language
Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling. This 12-module
professional development program for K-12 classroom teachers, reading
coaches, special education teachers, and administrators provides
a core understanding of language structure. Participants gain in-depth
instructional information to complement their teaching practices.
LETRS brings a deeper knowledge of reading instruction by addressing
each component of language literacy as well as the foundational
concepts that link them.

ESD
105 Literacy Cadre
The
ESD 105 Literacy Cadre, introduced in 2007-2008, offers training
and follow-up sessions to help increase the capacity for literacy
leaders in schools and districts to incorporate scientifically-based
reading instruction for all students. This program is designed to
provide the coaching skills needed to create building and district
literacy leaders out of participating reading coaches and specialists,
classroom teacher leaders, special education teachers, and administrators.
Programming
for 2007-2008 is on an overview of all the LETRS modules, engaging
participants in researrch-based instruction in the five components
of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and
comprehension.
