The
Alternative Route Teacher Preparation Consortia is an opportunity
for individuals to acquire teaching credentials who already have
a 4-year degree and 3-5 years work experience. The goal of the Consortia
is to prepare teachers in subject and geographic shortage areas
to take jobs where they currently live. This program is a scholarship/loan
program that provides the ability for individuals to obtain a teaching
certificate in approximately one year after completing course study
and a full-time classroom internship.
An anticipated
15 to 30 individuals will be accepted into the program for each
year. Credits are earned through Central Washington University,
Pacific Lutheran University, Heritage University, and Western Washington
University.
Teachers
are needed in the following subject areas: special education,
general science, middle school mathematics and science, chemistry,
physics, biology, instrumental music, early childhood special education,
choral music, English as a second language, bilingual, and Japanese.
