The
School Safety and Security programs and the Crisis Management and
Emergency Response programs at ESD 105 help schools to improve and
strengthen their comprehensive safe schools plan based upon prevention/mitigation,
intervention, all hazards crisis response and recovery.
Our
goals are to:

Help school districts to build capacity to develop and fully implement
school security programs
•
Involve community partners to help build capacity for schools to
adequately respond to crises
•
Provide improved responsive services to schools
•
Help schools stay in compliance with federal and state mandates
for safety and security
Our

Site, safety, and security assessments

Prevention and intervention assessment services

Crisis management/response team training

Crisis training for teachers and counselors
•
Crisis counseling and trauma debrief services

Policy and procedure compliance review
School
Safety and Security
This
is a cooperative effort beween the Office of Superintendent of Public
Instruction and the Washington State Criminal Justice training Commission
to help schools and communities establish a safe, disciplined, and
drug-free environment. We offer the following assistance for helping
ensure safety and security at our region's schools:
•
Training, planning, and implementation for school security programs
and officers
•
Technical assistance for policy development for school security
programs and officers, including job descriptions
•
Assessments to determine further training needs for school safety
and security programs
•
Technical assistance for establishing threat and vulnerability assessments
•
Facilitating relationships for schools with area law enforcement,
fire, and emergency management to develop policies and procedures
for school safety
School
Security Officer Training
This
statewide effort trains non-commissioned school security and safety
personnel on the basic concepts of working as a security officer
in a school district and building. The program is a joint effort
between the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission,
the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and Educational
Service District 105.
Emergency
Response and Crisis Management
ESD
105 is able to provide the following services to assist schools
with their emergency response and crisis management preparation:

Crisis response team training
•
Comprehensive site and security assessments
•
Development of a written crisis management plan for each building
in the district
•
Technical assistance for the Rapid Responder School Mapping System
•
Crisis
training and trauma debriefing services for teachers and counselors
•
Threat, site, safety, and security assessments
•
Consultation and technical assistance for the latest legislation
on school safety
