Learning Support

Student assistance programs to
address substance abuse prevention, intervention and support services

Intervention specialists provide early alcohol and other drug prevention and intervention services to students and their families, assist in referrals to treatment, and help transition students back to school when they have been to treatment. The program provides training and support for intervention specialists, data collection and management, and develops partnerships with community agencies to prevent and intervene with students involved in substance abuse and violence. Workshops are continually available to schools on current topics that assist school districts to create a safe, civil learning environment.

Services:

Prevention/Intervention Grant
Substance abuse intervention specialists are provided to service 24 school districts in the ESD 105 region. They provide support in developing comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with substance abuse and violence.

Program Outcomes:

Prevention and intervention strategies are intended to (a) promote the skills and attitudes necessary to resist pressures to use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, (b) help students avoid antisocial behavior that may disrupt learning, (c) encourage students to reduce the substance use for which they were referred, and (d) remove barriers to school success.
