Mobilizing
community resources to reduce substance abuse and violence
|
Community
Mobilization organizes Yakima County communities to address the
problems of substance abuse, violence, and gangs. Community Mobilization
assists community members to create and sustain healthy, safe, and
economically viable communities free from alcohol, tobacco, other
drug abuse, and violence.
Services:
- Provide
community coalitions with Risk and Protective Factor assessment
utilizing "Communities That Care Risk /Protective Factor
Training."

- Assist
coalitions to implement youth development initiatives that
result in "Developmental Assets."
|
- Assist
coalitions to develop Mission/Vision Statements and
"SMART" Goal Setting (defining purpose).
|
- Assist
coalition teams to establish meeting rules of order, how
to set agendas, develop logic models, and bring information
back to communities and school districts.
|
- Assist
coalitions to establish Meth Action neighborhood watch teams
and gang prevention watches.
|
- Provide
coalitions with mentoring training.
|
- Provide
training to parents to increase involvement in coalitions
through various parenting programs, such as "Strengthening
Families."

Goals:
Increase capacity
of each community to reduce violence and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other
Drug (ATOD) use among youth by:
- To
increase community readiness to address alcohol, tobacco,
and other drug use and abuse issues in youth.
- To
increase opportunities and rewards for family pro-social
involvement.
- To
decrease the 30 use rate for youth of alcohol, tobacco,
and marijuana.
- To
reduce youth membership in gangs as measured by the Healthy
Youth Survey (HYS).
